Join the Ontario Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons for our annual Residents’ Night, a valuable and engaging evening dedicated to education, mentorship, and professional dialogue.

This virtual event showcases case study presentations by OMFS residents, offering members the opportunity to serve as judges, provide feedback, and actively contribute to the professional development of future oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Residents’ Night is a cornerstone OSOMS event — bringing together experienced practitioners and emerging leaders in a collaborative, academic setting.

NADAR SHAKER

3D printing for post-traumatic orbital reconstruction


Description:

This presentation reviews the workflow and clinical applications of 3D reconstruction and printing for post-traumatic orbital floor fractures. It highlights virtual planning, mirrored orbital models, and pre-contoured implants to improve anatomic accuracy, reduce intraoperative challenges, and optimize functional and aesthetic outcomes.


Bio:

Nader Shaker is a PGY-5 Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery resident at Western University. He completed dental school at the University of Manitoba, followed by a General Practice Residency and medical school at Western University. He is an MSc candidate in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, with interests in 3D printing technology and an academic career.


DAVID CHARRETTE

Management of mandibular condylar hypertrophy and obstructive sleep apnea

with a costochondral graft and orthognathic surgery.


Description:

This case is a patient who presented with obstructive sleep apnea and bilateral jaw pain. She was found to have an osteochondroma of the left mandibular condyle, significant facial asymmetry, and an associated malocclusion.  She was treated surgically with resection and costochondral graft reconstruction of the left mandible in combination with orthognathic surgery.


Bio:

David completed his dentistry degree at University College Cork in Ireland, the GPR at Western University, an internship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospitals in New York and joined the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Western University.  He is now in his fourth year.


JUSTIN JEON

TMJ Reconstruction and Orthognathic Correction in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis


Description:

This case highlights a comprehensive surgical approach to restoring form and function to a patient with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.


Bio:

Dr. Justin Jeon is a third-year oral and maxillofacial surgery resident at the University of Toronto. He obtained his dental degree from the University of Toronto and subsequently completed a one-year internship at Dalhousie University before returning to Toronto for residency training.
