Dr. Amina Bouzid | Secretary / TreasurerI was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Ottawa. During this time, I gained early exposure to scientific inquiry through research in molecular oncology and a placement with Health Canada, experiences that fostered an evidence-based approach and reinforced my commitment to advancing patient care. I went on to pursue my dental degree at McGill University, graduating in 2018. My training there provided a strong foundation in comprehensive patient care and introduced me to the clinical and academic rigor that would define my career. Following graduation, I completed a one-year hospital-based General Practice Residency in Dentistry at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center in Toronto, Ontario. There, I was privileged to provide care to medically complex and underserved patients, which deepened my passion for surgery and complex multidisciplinary care. This passion led me to specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Toronto. During my residency, I was fortunate to train under leaders in orthognathic surgery, pathology and reconstructive surgery, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery. In parallel, I participated in several research initiatives focused on TMJ outcomes, including studies on total joint replacement and disc plication. Contributing to study design, data collection, and analysis reinforced my interest in improving long-term surgical outcomes for patients. Currently, I am an Associate Surgeon at Crescent Oral Surgery, where I work alongside colleagues in a collaborative group practice, and a Staff Surgeon at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, where I provide care to children with complex craniofacial and dentofacial conditions. These roles allow me to combine my passion for advanced surgical care with my dedication to serving medically complex and vulnerable populations. I am inspired to contribute to the Ontario Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons because I believe strongly in the value of collective effort to advance our specialty. My training and current practice have shown me the impact that innovation, education, and advocacy can have on both our patients and our professional community. By serving within the Society, I hope to support initiatives that elevate standards of care, expand opportunities for collaboration, and foster the next generation of surgeons. It would be a privilege to work alongside colleagues who share a common commitment to excellence and the continued growth of OMFS in Ontario. |
