What is TMJ?
TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) disorders are a family of problems related to your complex jaw joint. If you have had symptoms like pain or a "clicking" sound, you'll be glad to know that these problems are more easily diagnosed and treated than they were in the past. Since some types of TMJ problems can lead to more serious conditions, early detection and treatment are important.
How do you know if you are experiencing TMJ?
Here are a few things you can check to help you get a better idea whether you have a TMJ disorder and determine if you need to take the next steps
- Pain or soreness in your temporomandibular joints or jaw
- Pain in the face or around an ear
- Difficulty opening and closing mouth, whether speaking or chewing
If you notice at least one of the above symptoms, even occasionally, it’s a good idea to mention it to see a Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.
